This has been a very exciting, exhausting but extremely awesome week... My move from London to north of the wall to Edinburgh. I am currently based in a small village outside Hawick on the boarders, a beautiful house with green fields & amazing hills, I can't really ask for more. The training you can do here is epic.
It's not a secret that London wasn't the place for me, the only thing I miss is my friends & my clients (same thing really) What I don't miss is the thick, smelly air, the traffic, the grey bogies & water that has traveled through 8 people before it reaches my mouth, yuck.
Since I got here Mike, Jamie & I has organized and completed the event of the year, the Manathon. An event that started in Mike's office in London which started as a way to find out who was the manliest man (or woman) in the office, that's right don't let the name fool you. Back then it was games in Hyde Park, carrying water, sprinting, drinking pints of milk, how many chicken nuggets you can eat in 20 mins, 5km run etc, all in fancy dress obviously.
This is three years later & the Manathon is now taking place in the boarders, being a more serious & well organized event. We were 30 competitors on Saturday doing a 3km course which includs different obsticals, challanges & events including:
Smashing through a wooden door
Climbing/dragging yourself over a filthy pond on a rope
Off road driving
Running up a very steap hill (tasting blood just thinking about it)
Sawing through a massive log
Carrying the massive log on up another massive hill
Leaving the log getting a bullet
Running to shooting range hit a baloon which covered 3 numbers, remember numbers.
Run to find spades which had a padlock, put number in & dig a whole until you find a bag
Run back to where you started
Fell a tree (this was the most time & energy consuming part)
Bring your bag from the whole up on the back of a lorry & fill with grain
Run to the Manathon bar & down a pint
Ring the bell & your done, simples if you can still stand!
With an amazing group of people this was probably one of the best events I've ever taken part in. It's called the Manathon & I am very please to say that many of the girls competing did beat a lot of the boys. My friend Aussie Sarah who nailed a sixth place out of 30 while her boyfreind Mr Morton won the whole thing is just very impressive - big congratz to the Manathon couple!
Until next year
Today's Exercise: Tree felling:
Felling a tree takes a lot of strength & cardio,
it's everything but easy. You're working shoulders,
arms, lats & core, all at once. In the gym you might find a big tire & a sledge hammer which will have the same effect, if you don't have trees you can fell in your garden of course.
